Karunakaran Ridicules Vijay for Not Falling in Line With Strike

Comedian-turned-hero Karunakaran wasted no time in ridiculing actor Vijay for the latter’s decision to seek ‘special permission’ from the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) to hold the shoot of his upcoming untitled film at a time when the whole of Kollywood is on strike, suspending shooting schedules of all films and closing down halls/multiplexes/theatres/cinema halls all over the State except at Chennai.

The shoot of Vijay’s upcoming film, in which he gets paired up opposite Keerthy Suresh (who starred opposite him in the non-starter Bairavaa too), commenced at Victoria Mahal in Chennai, with the crew explaining that it had taken ‘special permission’ from the Producers’ Council to hold the shoot. Eye-brows were raised in certain quarters wondering what made the crew do so.

All the producers, distributors, theatre-owners and others have put their money at stake in the on-going strike and it is felt that Vijay has ‘betrayed’ the interests of the film industry by holding his film’s shoot. Karunakaran has tweeted on his Twitter account referring to Vijay’s song in Mersal which says that the word ‘Tamizhan’ (Tamil) itself is enough to make one feel proud (and arrogant).

Almost all unions and clubs in the film industry have joined the strike which has spilled over to the second week now. Industry-watchers are of the opinion that in this backdrop, it is indeed surprising that Vijay chose to neglect feelings and sentiments of those in need and chose to conduct the shoot of his film!
