Piaa Didn’t Tonsure Her Head for Abhiyum Anuvum, Reveals Vijayalakshmi

B.R. Vijayalakshmi, India’s first woman cinematographer-turned-director, is gearing up for the release of her upcoming Tamil-Malayalam directorial venture Abhiyum Anuvum (titled as Abhiyunde Kadha Anuvinteyum in Malayalam), has spilled the beans about actress Piaa Bajpai’s ‘tonsure act’ in the film.

Daughter of veteran film-maker B.R. Panthulu, Vijayalakshmi has been working as cinematographer for more than three decades in Kollywood. She debuted as director with the SPB-starrer Paattu Paadavaa, a musical hit, in 1995 and has taken more than two decades to make her second film starring Tovino Thomas, Piaa Bajpai, Prabhu, Suhasini and Rohini in lead roles.

Dharan Kumar has scored the film’s music while Uday Mahesh has penned the story and screenplay. The film’s audio was launched last week. Speaking about her film, Vijayalakshmi said that the film’s script was conceived based on a real-life incident which took place in U.S. some years back. “This script has never been attempted in any language, I can assure,” says Vijayalakshmi.

“The story is about two persons (Tovino and Piaa) who get to know each other via social networking sites, become close, get married and who face multiple issues after marriage. It’s a different backdrop which audiences would find new. Though the lead pair locks lips, it won’t be obscene on-screen,” said Vijayalakshmi.

She also spilled the beans about the 26-year old Piaa’s tonsured looks as seen in some promotional stills. “Piaa didn’t ‘sacrifice’ her curly hair and get her head tonsured; we have applied realistic-looking make-up to show her in her tonsured look,” she says.
