After almost seven years, leading heroes including superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Suriya, Ajith Kumar, Vikram and Vijay would have at least one of their films releasing this year. It is not often that films starring frontline heroes release in a cluster; some heroes might miss out due to some unexpected reason or the other. However, 2018 will see theatrical release of at least one film starring all these heroes!
Rajini is awaiting the release in theatres of his Pa. Ranjith-directed Kaala Karikaalan and Shankar-directed 2.0 and would have two releases in the same year after many, many years as he had decided in the late nineties itself to work only in one film per year. There is some confusion about which among 2.0 and Kaala Karikaalan would release first in theatres; as of now, 2.0 appears to be hitting the screens first on Tamil New Year day i.e. on 14th April.
Kamal Haasan, whose career didn’t make much headway during last year, might see the release in theaters of two of his films in the form of Vishwaroopam II and Sabaash Naidu. Vijay’s untitled film and Ajith’s Viswasam would be releasing this year (probably a ‘Deepavali’ clash) directed by A.R. Murugadoss and Shiva respectively.
Fresh from the success of his Pongal release Thaana Serndha Koottam, Suriya’s next film is to be helmed Selvaraghavan and would have Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh as the heroines. The film’s shoot hasn’t yet commenced but migh be ready to hit the screens by Deepavali. Vikram, whose Sketch released recently, would have Gautham Vasudev Menon-directed Dhuruva Natchathiram and Hari’s Saam Square releasing this year with considerable gaps in between.
National award-winning actor Dhanush’s Vada Chennai and Maari 2 may also release this year followed by the release of at least 2-3 films starring Vijay Sethupathi who has half-a-dozen films on his hands. Simbu, Sivakarthikeyan, Vishal, ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Arya and Jiiva may also have at least one of their films releasing at various stages in 2018.
