Producer Michael Rayappan has shocked his peers in particular and industry folks in general by demanding that actor Simbu should pay Rs.20 crores to film distributors to compensate for the losses suffered by them while taking up the release and distribution of his Anbanavan Adangadhavan Asaradhavan a few months back.
Directed by Adik Ravichandran and having Simbu, Tamannaah and Shriya Saran in the lead, the film released in theatres in June this year and was bullied by critics, movie-goers and Simbu’s fans for the actor’s attempt to overdo his role(s) in the film. Rayappan has filed a complaint with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) in this regard.
“Simbu agreed to star in Anbanavan Adangadhavan Asaradhavan only after hearing out the script from the director; mid-way throught the film’s shoot, he told us to make the film as a two-film sequel and added that he would star in the sequel without taking any money as fee. He hasn’t kept his word and is not cooperating to make the sequel; he was paid the fee he asked for to star in the above-said film.
“The film bombed at the box-office, causing me Rs.20 crores losses. Distributors are demanding that they be compensated for taking up the film’s release. It is Simbu’s responsibility to compensate them for the losses suffered by them. I have already filed a similar complaint with Nadigar Sangam but no action has been taken so far,” Rayappan’s complaint said.
