Actress Raai Laxmi, who is mighty excited about her debut Hindi film Julie 2 which is all set to hit the screens across the country next Friday (10th November), has revealed that she too has faced the hell of ‘sex-for-films’ offer early in her career.
The Belgaum-born lanky actress, who had earlier sizzled in an ‘item number’ song in A.R. Murugadoss’ last year’s hit film Akira, is keeping her fingers crossed as it is less than a week to go for the release of her debut Hindi film Julie 2 which is a sequel to the 2004 sizzling hit Julie which had the then hottie Neha Dhupia in the lead.
Rai’s comments assume significance in the face of many Hollywood actresses and celebrities coming out in the open against the sexual assault/harassment they faced in the past at the hands of popular film-maker Harvey Weinstein who is to be barred by the Producers’ Guild of the United States. She also joins actresses Padmapriya and Bollywood’s Priyanka Chopra in speaking on the issue which isn’t much talked about.
“It is the women who get affected in most professions. Of course, there are a few noble-minded producers/film-makers. I have also come across producers who expected sex in return of film offers and as I knew how to deal with them, I didn’t face any problems. Now that social media is quite active than it was in the past, such trouble-giving film-makers would be more careful lest they would be caught.
“Actresses without proper manager/PR persons face such hurdles. Only those actresses who go out on their own to seek film offers are offered such proposals. I used to warn quite a few actresses about the attitude of quite a few producers,” she says.
