Waited for 11 Years to Make My First Film With Rajini: Shankar

Producer-director Shankar has revealed that he waited for 11 long years before he made his first-ever Rajini-starrer Sivaji: The Boss in 2007.

Shankar was speaking at last Friday night’s audio-launch of his upcoming film 2.0 (which would be his third film with Rajini in the lead after the 2010 colossal hit film Enthiran: The Robot) which was attended among others by Rajini, Amy Jackson, A.R. Rahman, Akshay Kumar and producer Subashkaran of Lyca Productions.

“2.0 isn’t a sequel to Enthiran; it’s a story in a very different backdrop as it conveys a theme relevant for the whole world. Dr. Vaseegaran and ‘Chitti’ of Enthiran would be in this film as well; the script is a result of my imagination if things happened the way I visualized them to have happened in the film. To put it simply, the script has treaded my path of my thought process of imaginative and creative instincts.

“Rajini Sir’s commitment and hard-work/sincerity in starring in the film’s shoot in sweltering Delhi heat, donning a 12-kg weighing special costume, is indescribable. Not for nothing that he is called a superstar! This costume is akin to those worn by Hollywood’s ‘Batman’ and ‘Superman’ characters; nobody in Indian films has so far worn a similar kind of costume except Rajini.

“He also cooperated a lot during the Tirukazhukkundram shoot; despite spending more than four decades in the industry, Rajini’s interest in seeking suggestions in how to do better in each sequence is simply amazing. I have so far made three films with him and had to wait for 11 long years before we stared work in Sivaji,” he concluded.
