Not all the debutant heroines are lucky enough to have been paired up opposite a frontline hero in their first or second films. However, this is not the case with television host-turned-actress Priya Bhavani Shankar, who debuted as heroine in Kollywood with the Deepavali release Meyaadha Maan.
Directed by debutant director Rathna Kumar and pitting Priya opposite Vaibhav Reddy, Meyaadha Maan is said to have done ‘very well’ despite releasing on Deepavali alongside actor Vijay’s controversy-ridden Mersal. Priya and Vaibhav’s performance have been lauded by critics and movie-goers even as the film completes a week in theatres today.
A former newsreader, Priya was already a household name thanks to her role in the popular television soap Kalyanam Mudhak Kaadhal Varai. She quit the serial mid-way, robbing it of its popularity, to go Down Under to get married to her long-time boyfriend. However, she is back in the entertainment industry making her debut as heroine in Kollywood.
Dubbed as the next ‘Trisha’ for her girl-next-door looks, Priya is all set to pair up opposite Karthi in her next untitled film which would be directed by Pandiraj, the director of the national award-winning film Pasanga and a few other films. It is also said that Anupama Parameswaran of Premam and Kodi fame would play the second heroine in the untitled film which is expected to go to the floors shortly.
