Actor Vijay’s upcoming film Mersal, which releases on or during Deepavali next week, still faces problems as the makers haven’t yet decided on the exact date of releasing it.
Usually, ‘Pongal’ and ‘Deepavali’ are considered as ‘Big Days’ by the Kollywood film industry as frontline heroes, upcoming heroes as well as debutants aim to release their films on these days so as to take advantage of the extended spell of holidays preceding or following these festivals. Usually, Pongal and Deepavali films are released at least a day or two in advance ahead of the ‘Big Days’.
This year, Deepavali falls on Wednesday and two days before it comes Monday, a day when films are not usually released in theatres. Produced by ‘Kalaipuli’ S. Thanu and directed by Atlee Kumar, Mersal might be released either on Deepavali (18th October) or on Monday (16th October). Some say that instead of releasing the film on a Monday, it would not be illogical to release the film the previous Friday itself (13th October).
It still remains to be seen as to which day the film is being released.
