A scramble for releasing low and medium-budget Tamil films is being witnessed with as many as 11 films getting lined up to hit the screens today (22nd September).
Low and medium-budget films have been facing the perennial problems of getting the theatres of their choice to release their films. They always target a week ahead of ‘big Fridays’ (Deepavali, Pongal, Tamil New Year & Ayudha Pooja) to release their films so that they get enough theatres of their preference.
Theru Naaigal, Kaa Kaa Kaa, Bayamaa Irukku, Naan Aanaiyittal (dubbed version of Telugu film Nene Raju Nene Mantri, the Rana Daggubati & Kajal Aggarwal starrer), Aayirathil Iruvar, Konjam Konjam, Pichuva Kaththi, Kalavu Thozhirchalai, ‘Coffee With Anu’ fame Anu-Nassar starrer Valla Desam, Neri and Oviya’s dubbed film Polie Rajjiyam are the eleven films which are hitting the screens today.
Of late, small and medium budget films (example: Vidharth-starrer Kurangu Bommai) are doing reasonably well at theatres when compared to big-budget films starring frontline heroes. As the ‘risk factor’ is less in these films, theatre-owners and distributors are also promoting the release of such films, which has resulted in so many number of films releasing on a single day.
