Makers of television anchor-turned-actor Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film Velaikkaran have announced that the film, which was to release in theatres on the 29th of this month, would face a delay by a few weeks in its release.
Directed by ‘Jayam’ Raja, Velaikkaran brings Sivakarthikeyan and Nayantara together for the first time as on-screen pair. The film’s shoot is wrapped up except for the shoot of two more songs, it has now been revealed. “As it is Raja’s next film after his super-duper 2015 hit film Thani Oruvan, we have decided to take some more time in ensuring the film’s quality in all aspects.
“Furthermore, films are to be registered on-line for getting censored by the Censor Board; it’s a process which usually takes 3-4 weeks. Thus, we regret to announce that the film won’t release in theatres on 29th September as announced earlier. As it’s a film made with a huge budget, it would only be appropriate if the film is released during festivals.
“We have tentatively targeted Christmas in November and plan to release the film on 22nd December so as to enable the fans to watch the film during Christmas festivities. We tender our sincere apologies to fans and people for keeping them waiting for so long. However, we assure them that the film would be worth the wait,” the producer said in a statement issued yesterday.
