It is reported from sources (which haven’t yet been confirmed) that Ajith Kumar’s Vivegam, which has been released the day-before-yesterday, collected a whopping Rs.30 crores across the globe on its first day in theatres.
The report further said that out of the Rs.30 crores, Tamil Nadu alone accounted for Rs.20 crores. However, there is another version which states that the figures have been ‘exaggerated’ and that the film could have at best collected only in between Rs.14-15 crores in Tamil Nadu on its first day, which is not a bad amount at all!
Ramanujam, a trade expert who keeps himself updated on the box-office collections of Tamil films, says that the global box-office collection details haven’t yet been made available. He is of the opinion that Vivegam would have fared very well on its first day in cities such as Chennai and Coimbatore. He added that his predictions were based on pre-release bookings.
Distributors across Madurai-Ramanathapuram, Salem and Trichy-Tanjore zones, however, say that they were apprehensive that the film would turn out to be a super-hit venture. Released on ‘minimum guarantee’ basis at a cost of Rs.2.25 crores in Madurai-Ramanathapuram zone, the film reportedly collected Rs.50 lakhs on its first day.
