Actor Vijay has appealed to his fans to exercise ‘extreme caution’ in airing their opinion and thoughts on social media.
Vijay’s appeal follows a complaint filed with the Chennai Police by Bangalore-based female journalist Tanya Rajendran against a couple of his fans for airing objectionable thoughts on social networking sites. Based on the complaint, the police have registered cases against the two fans and are interrogating.
“I tend to respect women a lot; while freedom of expression is okay in criticizing others’ films or views, there is no license to anyone to record opinion on social networking sites which might even remotely degrade or humiliate the sentiments of women. This is my personal opinion and I feel all of us should respect women an womanhood.
“I hereby appeal to all my fans not to record any opinion/view/thought on social networking sites in a manner which might hurt women,” Vijay’s appeal said.
