C. Premkumar, a popular cinematographer who has worked in successful films such as Sundarapandian, Pasanga and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, turns director in ‘Ashok Kumar-Balu Mahendra-K.V. Anand’ style as yet another cinematographer is giving vent to his film-making instincts.
Premkumar’s debut directorial venture has been titled as 96 and brings the untested combination of Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha for the first time together on screen. S. Nandhagopa, who had produced successful ventures such as Romeo Juliet and Kaththi Sandai, is producing 96 on behalf of his production house ‘Madras Enterprises’.
Others essaying prominent roles in the film include ‘Aadukalam’ Murugadoss, Kaali Venkat and Vinodhini (remember her in Balu Mahendra’s 1992 film Vanna Vanna Pookkal?). Govind Menon is the film’s music director while Shanmugasundaram is the cinematographer. Lyricists Umadevi and Karthik Netha are penning the film’s songs.
Huge sets have been erected for the film whose second schedule of shoot is presently going on in Pondicherry. Vijay Sethupathi, who is daring enough to star in films of different genres, is said to be keeping his fans in a ‘suspenseful’ mood as his role in the film and the film’s script haven’t yet been revealed.
