Comedians won’t be able to sustain themselves as heroes; it’s a well-known fact. Top comedians such as Chandrababu, Nagesh, Surulirajan, Goundamani and Vadivelu found it out over the past many years. It now appears that it would be Santhanam’s turn to find out the bitter truth.
Santhanam was the ‘numero uno’ comedian in Tamil films till a few years back when the thought of playing the hero and not the sidekick to the hero gripped him ever-so-strongly. He played one of the three heroes in Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya and played the solo lead in Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham, both films being the remakes of successful films in Tamil and Telugu.
Santhanam has had two more releases after the above-said films and these films have only done limited business at the box-office even as the comedian-turned-hero is said to be very adamant in sticking to his decision only to play the hero and not go back to his roots as comedian. Thanks to Santhanam’s decision, Soori has become the ‘No.1’ comedian in K-Town now.
Server Sundaram, which was to be Santhanam’s next venture, was to be released by K.R. Films but the firm has gotten itself into a financial mess as films such as Iraivi, Engitta Modadhe and Bongu released by it in recent times failed to do well at the box-office. This has made it very hesitant in taking up the release and distribution of Santhanam’s Server Sundaram!
