Kamal Haasan has said that he would criticize Tamil superstar and his close friend Rajinikanth too if the latter takes to politics and turns out to be unfair.
Kamal addressed newsmen in the face of increasing allegations against his ‘Bigg Boss’ reality show which has been on air on a leading regional private television channel. Netizens and social activists have been up in arms against the reality show, terming it as a ‘disgrace’ in the culture-conscious State.
Actress Gayathrie Raghuram’s remarks against a fellow house-mate have elicited sharp reaction from across the society. Talking to newsmen, Kamal defended his decision to host the reality show (apparently for a huge, unspecified fee). “I don’t need to offer any explanation to anybody on hosting the show which is only a Tamil version of an already hugely popular show on a Hindi television channel.
“I’m entitled to treat my audiences fully; ‘Bigg Boss’ is like a joint-family which discusses things. Talk of censoring it doesn’t arise as I feel even films shouldn’t be censored. Of course, I host the show for money and not as a service to the society,” he said.
He supported Rajinikanth’s comments that the (political) system in the State has been in a very bad shape. “Rajini was absolutely right in doing so and I don’t oppose it. However, if Rajini takes to politics and adopts unfair means later, I’d oppose and criticize him too,” Kamal Haasan said.
