An actor tonsuring his head for his character in a particular film has happened many a time in the past; actress Lakshmy Ramakrishnan did so boldly for Mysskin’s Yudhdham Sei a few years back but a heroine hasn’t done this.
Actress Poorna (a.k.a. Shamna Kasim) would thus be the first actress in Kollywood who tonsures her head for a role in a film even when she is among the list of sought-after heroines in Kollywood. Poorna thus follows Anuskha’s footsteps after the latter put on oodles of weight to suit her role in the 2015 film Size Zero (Inji Iduppazhagi in Tamil); however it’s a different issue that she hasn’t been able to get back in shape even after one-and-a-half years.
Poorna, who has evinced interest of late in portraying character-driven roles, has taken up an important role in Komban fame Muthaiah’s direction in Kodi Veeran which pits Sasikumar opposite Mahima Nambiar for the first time on screen. Poorna is also said to have given a very good account of herself as a mother of two in the soon-to-be-released Savarakathi.
When Muthaiah told Poorna that she might have to tonsure her head for her role in Kodi Veeran, Poorna didn’t make a big issue of it and immediately gave her consent to lose her flowing hair for the sake of her character in the film!
