Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who debuted as heroine in Tamil films with the 2012 hit film Podaa Podi, is all set to sizzle as a theatre artist.
Varalaxmi debuted as heroine opposite Simbu in Vignesh Shivan’s debut directorial venture Podaa Podi. The 32-year old actress has since starred only in a handful of movies but has on her hands as many as three Tamil films now which are in various stages of production. One of them is Vikram Vedha with Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi as the protagonist and antagonist (respectively).
Commenting on her debut as a theatre artist, the talented Varalaxmi says “In films, you have the possibility of going for another ‘re-take’ in case something went wrong during the shoot. However, on stage, you don’t have the luxury of a re-take and you have to get everything right at the first opportunity you get. I was aware of all these things when I decided to appear in the musical stage-play Romeo Juliet.
“Rahman’s songs are used in the musical play after getting formal permission from him to do so. ‘Salsa’ Mano is to dance with me in the play which would be directed by Jeffrey Vardhan. The play is set for screening in Chennai for two days on 08th and 09th July,” Varalaxmi, a trained Salsa danseuse, signs off before adding that stage-play acting won’t affect her performances in films.
