Actor-producer Vishal, who is also the general secretary of Nadigar Sangam and the President of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), has appealed to the Centre to consider changing the mode of censoring films.
Vishal addressed newsmen yesterday after meeting the Regional Censor Board officials at Shastri Bhawan. “We have made a request to Censor Board chairman Mathiyazhagan to simplify the process of securing Censor certificate in today’s prevailing scenario,” he said.
“Films tend to miss their date of release in theatres as they are mandatorily sent to the Censor Board only a week before their scheduled date of release. Process should be simplified allowing producers to send their films to the Board at least a month before they plan to release their films in theatres. We are taking suitable measures in this regard and it is up to the Centre to consider our request.
“Tamil film industry has been facing a tough time in the face of implementation of GST which doesn’t augur well for the industry. We have been taking up the issue with the Centre and have also sent a letter signed by Kamal Haasan to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley,” he concluded.
