Usually, directors don’t prefer to shoot at the location if their previous film(s) shot there hadn’t done well at the box-office; not Bala, the mercurial film-maker who has decided to keep Thanjavur as the backdrop of his next film Naachiyaar.
Bala’s latest directorial venture has Thanjavur as the backdrop though his last year’s Tharai Thappattai (landmark 1000th film as music composer for Maestro Ilaiyaraaja), which was about Karagattam artistes based in Thanjavur, didn’t exactly set the box-office on fire with its theatrical collections. Sasikumar and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar had essayed lead roles in the film.
Starring Jyothika and music director-turned-actor G.V. Prakash Kumar as siblings, the film’s shoot is to be held for a fortnight in Thanjavur. Bala is also producing the film under his banner ‘B’ Studios. Maestro Ilaiyaraaja is scoring the music of the film.
‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, who produced superstar Rajinikanth’s Lingaa, makes his debut as an actor in Tamil films by essaying a powerful role in the film which is to release in theatres in September.
