When it comes to portraying a majestic princess/queen on screen, not many contemporary Indian heroines could look as convincing and as tailor-made for such roles than our own Anushka Shetty a.k.a. Anushka. The lanky actress, though, has said ‘no’ to portray one such role in the multi-crore Sangamithra.
Anushka’s roles in Arundhati, Rudhramaadevi and Baahubali are proof enough of the fact that she is the most suitable heroine in the present generation to play a warrior princess or a queen in a period drama. Basking on the colossal success of her latest venture Baahubali 2, Anushka was reportedly approached to play the lead role in Sundar C’s Sangamithra which has ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Arya in the lead.
Shruti Haasan was to play the lead role in the film but opted out of the very last minute after even taking part in the ‘introduction’ event of the film at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival in France. Shruti cited ‘call-sheet’ dates and other issues after which Sundar C, the director, started looking for other heroines. Hansika, Sundar’s favourite heroine, wasn’t reportedly okayed by the producers.
Though Anushka doesn’t have many films on hand other than Baagmati, she has spurned the offer to star in Sangamithra which has made Tollywood press paint the town red with rumours of the actress’ impending marriage!
