Trade analysts point out that Parvathy Menon a.k.al Parvathy, who played national award-winning actor Dhanush’s heroine in the 2013 non-starter Maryan, has now become the highest-paid actress in Mollywood.
Mollywood is never short of talented heroes and heroines; megastars Mammootty and Mohanlal have been ruling the roost for more than three decades now. However, when compared with Tamil, Telugu or Hindi film industries, Mollywood actors/actresses get far less as their fee per film. In fact, in a clear case of gender disparity, heroines are paid very less than heroes in Mollywood.
It now turns out that Parvathy Menon is the highest-paid actress in Malayalam films. The actress is said to have upped her fee per film as Re.1 crore after her latest film Take Off became a super-duper hit. It may be noted that Parvathy wasn’t getting beyond Rs.40-50 lakhs per film before the release of Take Off in theatres in March. She also said in the past that produces demanded six from her to star in their films.
Manju Warrier, who split from actor Dileep some time back, holds the second spot as she gets paid Rs.60-80 lakhs per film while out own Nayantara, who gets paid in crores to star in Tamil and Telugu films, has happily occupied the third spot in Malayalam films (her native film industry) where she only gets Rs.35-50 lakhs per film!
