Playback singer Sundarayyar, who sung the popular ‘Jasmeen…’ song in Raju Murugan’s last year’s political satire Joker, has expressed his happiness at getting the coveted national award.
“It’s an award won by a commoner and I would like to dedicate this award to all the commoners like me,” were his initial reactions after he came to know that he had won the national award for ‘best male playback singer’ for the song in the film, which was also adjudged as ‘best Tamil film’ during the recently announced 64th National awards.
“I’m glad that I got this coveted for the very first song that I sung in my career as a playback singer. I hail from a very humble background. My parents are poor farmers. I had no musical background and I’m ecstatic about the fact that my debut song in films has won me the most wanted award of ‘national award’.
“This gives me huge confidence to go about my work in future. I’m happy to have got the award and I owe my sincere thanks to director Raju Murugan and music director Sean Roldan for choosing me to sing this song,” Sundarayyar concludes.
