Want to know why superstar Rajini released yesterday the teaser of an upcoming film titled as Nagesh Thiraiyarangam? Well, the answer is simple: the film’s title has the name ‘Nagesh’ in it!
Veteran and legendary comedian Nagesh, who had rubbed shoulders with the triumvirate of heroes (MGR, Sivaji and Gemeni Ganesan) who ruled the fifties, sixties and seventies and later starred with superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in many of their films, built a cinema hall in his name in Pondy Bazaar in Chennai which was inaugurated by the late MGR.
Later, due to mismanagement, the theatre lost its sheen and it became a cinema hall meant only for ‘second releases’ or release of insignificant films. Eventually, it was closed down and converted into a marriage hall. The new film has the title of Nagesh Thiraiyarangam though it neither speaks about Nagesh or how the theatre came up.
Starring Nedunchaalai fame Aari and Ashna Zaveri in the lead, it also has veteran actress Latha, Sithara, Manobala, Kaali Venkat and many others in the lead. Debutant Isaq is the film’s director and has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues.
It turns out that Rajini agreed to release the film’s teaser at his Poes Garden residence only because the film had the name of the late Nagesh in its title. Rajini and Nagesh were thick friends till the latter’s demise.
