Close on the heels of the 23-year old Karthik Naren, who made last year’s super-hit film Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru, we now have the 22-year old Sri Ganesh debuting in Kollywood as a director with the soon-to-be-released 8 Thottakkal. Sri Ganesh would be clashing at the box-office with his ‘guru’ and ace film-maker Mani Ratnam.
Ganesh, who had worked under director Mysskin, is debuting as director with 8 Thottakkal which is produced by ‘Vellai’ Pandian under his banner Vetrivel Saravana Films. Pandian’s son Vetri plays the hero in the film which has Mollywood actress Aparana Balamurali debuting as heroine in Tamil films. The trailer of the film was released recently.
Others in the cast include M.S. Bhasker, ‘Maim’ Gopi, Chales, Vinoth, RS Sivaji, Theni Murugan, Manikandan, Lallu and Meera Mithun. “It’s a crime thriller in which Vetri plays a cop. A gun goes missing from a police station; the missing 8 Thottakkal (bullets) present in the gun forms the crux of the film’s script. The film also has a very important social message,” hits Ganesh.
Nassar, who spoke at the trailer launch, said that Bhaskar might even win the coveted national award for his performance in the film. Debutant Sundaramurthy has scored the music of the film which is cinematographed by Dinesh K. Babu. The film, which is to release in theatres on 07th April, is to clash with Mani Ratnam-directed Kaatru Veliyidai.
Incidentally enough, Ganesh has always considered Mani Ratnam as his ‘guru’ though he never worked under him!
