The craze among the Indian people (read: people of the State) in watching the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match has forced Tamil film producers to hasten up the release of some long-pending projects. As a result, as many as 10-12 films are likely to release in theaters within the next 10 days!
Unfortunately, the number given by the Producers’ Council about films which have been wrapped up long back but had been lying in cold storage for want of theatres or distributors is quite disturbing indeed: as many as 500 films are awaiting their release in theatres. As the cost of releasing outscores the cost of producing, the makers are not daring enough to go all out and release their respective films in theatres.
Such films are always on the look-out for an ‘appropriate Friday’ on which no film starring frontline hero is released. This Friday (24th February) and the next Friday (31st February) might witness a slew of films releasing in theatres as the ‘IPL cricket carnival’ is to commence in the first week of April which takes away audiences’ interest from films.
Films such as Aakkam, Oru Kanavu Pola…, Ivan Yaarendru Therigiradha, Paambhu Sattai, Kadugu, Engitta Modhadhe, 1 A.M., Vaigai Express, 465, Arasakulam and a couple of dubbed English films like Fireball and Dil Irundha Vaada besides Tollywood superstar Pawan Kalyan’s Kattamarayudu are the films lined up for release.
