Reports say that super-star Rajinikanth’s ‘digitally re-mastered’ Baashha, his super-duper hit film of 1995 which was re-released last Friday (03rd March), had collected a whopping sum of Rs.5 crores in its first three days itself!
Rajini’s fans were apprehensive about the film’s showing as its release coincided with the commencement of Plus Two exams of State Board in Tamil Nadu. However, it has been proved beyond that ‘exams’ or ‘no-exams’, Rajini is the undisputed box-office ‘emperor’ as the film has been lapped up by his fans, movie-goers and others who love its ‘modified digital version’. Fans in Japan have gone berserk with the film’s release!
When Baashha was first telecast on television in the mid-nineties, roads wore a deserted look across the State as people chose to stay indoors to watch the film. This is the scenario whenever the film is broadcast on television. When Sathya Movies, the producer of Baashha chose to release the re-mastered version of the film instead of making a new film on the eve of its Golden Jubilee year in film production, eye-brows were raised in several quarters.
However, the decision has been vindicated as new generation of Rajini’s fans are enjoying their Thalaivar’s khakhi-clad looks in Baashha which was released in more than 300 halls in the State akin to a new film getting released. As per initial reports, the film collected more than Rs.5 crores in its first three days with Chennai alone accounting for Rs.55 lakhs!
