Not many leading actresses prefer taking up the role of a lead actress in a short film. Dhansika, who is on a high post the super-success of her last year’s film Kabali which had superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, has gone ahead and done so!The actress, who impressed her fans and movie-goers by playing ‘don’ Rajini’s daughter in Pa. Ranjith’s Kabali, has played the lead role in an upcoming short film titled as Sinam, whose duration is 25 minutes.
Anand Murthy, who directed Dhansika in the film, says that the film is about the tale of a sex-worker hailing from Sonagachi, Kolkata’s Red Light District. “As per the script, a documentary film-maker on a visit to Kolkata comes across this woman by sheer accident. They get talking as a casual chat turns into a serious conversation.
“Finally, the film-maker gets to know the backdrop in which the girl was literally ‘pushed’ into taking up prostitution as a means of earning livelihood. The shock was when he knows who were actually behind the heinous act,” concludes Murthy, adding that the short-film was based on a real-life incident he once heard and read about.
