Ruffling feathers apparently in an unwa(rra)nted manner, PETA India has said that actor Suriya has expressed his support to ongoing Jallikkattu protests mainly to seek publicity on the eve of release of his upcoming film S3 which releases next Thursday.
Celebrities in particular and people in general have demanded banning PETA in the country in view of the animal-rights body’s opposition to holding Jallikkattu. Suriya was amount the many celebrities who issued statements recently supporting Tamils’ traditional sport of Jallikkattu and condemning PETA for its interference in Tamils’ traditional habits.
PETA India’s Nikunj Sharma has said in his statement that he suspected that Suriya has spoken out in support of Jallikkattu mainly to seek publicity on the eve of release of his upcoming film S3 in theatres next Thursday (26th February).
“Jallikkattu events have always witnessed loss of human lives and injuries to many including spectators. It is not good for Suriya to support an event, which inflicts injuries and causes deaths and which has been banned by the Supreme Court, merely to seek publicity for his film,” Sharma’s hard-hitting statement said. Suriya is yet to react to PETA’s statement.
