Eight films were slated to hit the screen during the next weekend, which would be festival time in Tamil Nadu on the eve of Pongal, but release of only four films have so far been confirmed.
As only 5-6 days are left for the grand festive season to commence, theatre-owners have been working overtime go allot their theatres to films starring frontline heroes. Pongal and Deepavali are two major festivals often targeted by frontline heroes, producers and directors to release their films; last year’s Navarathri season too witnessed release of quite a films.
Pongal beats other festivals by a huge margin as there is invariably 3-4 holidays for all employees, thus assuring decent to very good crowds to theatre-owners during the holidays. Keeping in mind the ‘opening’, theatre-owners vie with each other to bag frontline stars’ films to release in their halls. Among the eight films which were earlier slated to release, only four have been confirmed as of now to release next week.
Vijay-Keerthy Suresh’s Bharathan-directed Bairavaa (releasing on 12th Jan.), Vijay Sethupathi-Gayathrie’s Puriyaadha Pudhir (13th Jan.), G.V. Prakash Kumar-Kriti Kharbhanda’s Bruce Lee (13th Jan.)and R. Parthiepan’s Shantanoo-Parvathy Nair starrer Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga (14th Jan.) are slated to release during Pongal holidays. Except Parthiepan’s film (‘U/A’), all other films have ‘U’ certificates.
