Fans of superstar Rajinikanth are not amused when Rajini’s super-duper hit films are remade or when heroes go mad chasing titles of Rajini’s super-hit films. To Rajini’s fans, titles of Rajini’s films are ‘sacred’ and ‘exclusive’ and those words can only mean to refer to their matinee idol and nobody else!
More often than not, Rajini doesn’t object to use of titles of his previous films by other heroes. Raghava Lawrence, a die-hard Rajini follower and who converted to Hinduism after coming close to Rajini, led the way in ‘hijacking’ titles of Rajini’s films. It was he who first started the trend a few years back by naming one of his films as Rajadhi Raja, a super-duper Rajini hit film which released in the late eighties.
Raghava announcd some time back that he would be remaking Rajini’s ever-green hit film Moondru Mugam even as Rajini’s fans didn’t waste no time that nobody except Rajini could every convincingly portray the role of ‘DSP Alex Pandian’. After the announcement, nothing has been said about who would star in the remake.
In the meantime, Raghava has announced that he would be starring in the remake of Rajini-Vijayashanti’s super-hit film Mannan. Incidentally, P. Vasu, who directed the film in the early nineties, would be directing the remake after 25 years with Raghava in the lead. Rajini’s fans are once again upset that one of their Thalaivar’s all-time hit films is going to be ‘distorted’ in the form of remake!
