Composer AR Rahman, who enjoyed a double whammy at Oscar Awards 2009 by winning the Best Song and Best Original Score categories for Slumdog Millionaire, is in contention for the 89th Academy Awards which will be held on February 26 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
Rahman has been short listed for Best Original Score and Best Song categories for his excellent work in “Pele: Birth of a Legend”. In a long list of 145 scores that are competing for a nomination in the Original Score category, Rahman’s name is also included.
Also, the song “Ginga” composed by Rahman for the film, is part of the long list of 91 songs that are contending for a nomination under the Original Song category. The final shortlisted nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced officially on January 24th.
