Not many directors or artistes would have the courage to reveal the entire script of the film prior to its theatrical release. Rajadurai, director of the upcoming film Muthuramalingam, did precisely this during the meet-the-press event held in connection with the film’s impending release.
Muthuramalingam, which has lyrics by the late and legendary Panchu Arunachalam and music by Maestro Ilaiyaraja, brings together Gautham Karthik and Priya Anand for the second time in two years. The duo starred opposite each other in last year’s Vai Raja Vai directed by Aishwarya R. Dhanush.
Besides Priya and Gautham, the film has a huge star cast including Prabhu, Napoleon, Suman, Vivek, Radha Ravi, Vamsi Krishna, Chinni Jayanth, Singampuli, Sukanya and Rekha. It turns out that the hero’s father develops clash with a top cop and absconds from the village with his son. After a prolonged search, the cops device a ploy to trace them.
“Heroine steps in and says that if the top cop wins in one-to-one Silambam fight with the hero, he could go ahead and arrest him and his father. The resultant fight, apparently the climax, shows the hero emerging victorious, thus saving the prestige of not only his family but also the entire village,” says Rajddurai. Napoleon plays Karthiks’ father in the film.
The film also has a song sung by Kamal Haasan in Ilaiyaraaja’s music. The song is in praise of Muthuramalinga Thevar. The entire film has been shot in Tirunelveli.
