Producer Gnanavel Raja’s threat to commit suicide if justice is not meted out to him the issue surrounding the call-sheet given to him by actor Sivakarthikeyan (to star in a new film) has surprised and shocked industry folks.
After Sivakarthikeyan announced his arrival as a bankable hero with the super-duper hit film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (which was his third successive hit film in 2013), leading production houses sought his call-sheet to star in their films. It turns out that Gnanaval Raja’s Studio Green was one of them. Though Sivakarthikeyan agreed to star in a film in Raja’s production, he later had second thoughts as his successive films proved to be hits and his ‘market rate’ had gone up.
When he was cornered by film-makers to star in their films, Sivakarthikeyan cried on-stage at the success meet of his latest film Remo but his ‘tear act’ didn’t meet with approval from those within the industry. He later reportedly told the producers that he would star in their films only if they paid him his present ‘market’ fee. In the meantime, he had already started work on his next film.
After Sivakarthikeyan breached the contract, Gnanavel Raja has sent a message to a Whatsapp Group stating that “I’m looking up to Producers’ Council for justice. I had been praying to the Almighty that justice would be meted out to me; if it turns out that I won’t get justice, I would have no option other than to commit suicide. I have been denied justice in Sivakarthikeyan issue as my life hangs in balance!”
