Film industry is an odd place: while it takes talented artistes on the elevator and puts them right on top, it wastes no time in ‘deporting’ them from the top if they erred or didn’t bother sustaining their top position. Such is the case of music director Santhosh Narayanan, who scored the music of superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali!
Santhosh debuted as music director with director Pa. Ranjith’s debut directorial venture Attakathi only in 2012 but registered a steep rise in stature with films such as Pizza, Madras, Kabali, etc. Within no time, he got to score music to a Rajini-starrer, thanks mainly to the confidence Ranjith had in him. However, Santhosh appears to be suffering from ‘burn out’ factor so soon in his career.
He was the music director of both the two major releases on Deepavali this year: Karthi’s Kaashmora and Dhanush’s Kodi. At a time when he should have delivered super-duper hit songs in both these films, he took them very lightly and gave only music of passable quality. Small film-makers can’t approach him a they can’t afford Santhosh’s fee who also takes quite a loooooong time in composing his songs.
One of the most irritating things about Santhosh is that he doesn’t prefer using mobile phones which makes it very difficult for producers and directors to get in touch with him. These factors have recently turned against the bearded Santhosh who is said to have ‘gifted’ the top spot to the likes of Shaan Rolden and others. Critics feel that it is high time Santhosh woke up and brushed up his act!
