It was a direct contest indeed; with no other major films releasing, Karthi’s Kaashmora and Dhanush’s Kodi vied for Deepavali honours when they released in theatres across Tamil Nadu and elsewhere last Friday (28th October), a day ahead of Deepavali, the festival of lights and crackers.
Now that the films have completed four days in theatres, initial box-office reports have started pouring in. The Dhanush-Trisha-Anupama Parameswaran starrer Kodi collected Rs.15 crores in Tamil Nadu in its first two days in theatres and appears set to become a successful, thus relieving the national award-winning actor Dhanush who had delivered a string of failures in the recent past.
Kaashmora starring Karthi, Nayantara and Sri Divya in the lead collected Rs.26 crores in its first two days in theatres in Tamil Nadu, thus easily beating Dhanush’s Kodi. Directed by Gokul of Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara fame, Kaashmora is said to have collected Rs. 8 crores on Saturday (Deepavali) alone.
Kaashmora’s break-up is thus: Rs.12.5 crores in Tamil Nadu, Rs.8 crores in Andhra Pradeh and Telengana and Rs.2 crores in Karnataka and other States put together. As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, Kodi appears to be leading but with the release of Telugu version of Kaashmora (titled as Dharma Yogi), Karthi appears to be leading!
