The latest prevailing trend in Tamil film circles is that a hero’s new film is taken up for distribution/release by distributors based purely on the theatrical performance of the last film of the hero!
A frontline hero would find the going tough if he delivers a not-so-successful film after a string of successes and this (trend) keeps all the heroes on tenterhooks. Of late, distributors are even skipping a commercially mandatory ‘special show’ for them to watch a film and decide whether to take up its distribution or not: what they say becomes the final thing, whether they watch the film or not!
Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film Remo, which is scheduled to hit the screens in four weeks from now, has been sold for a whopping price of Rs.45 crores, mainly because of the fact that his latest film Rajini Murugan doing very well in theatres.
Rajini Murugan could court the kind of success it managed in theatres mostly because of the fact that no film starring major heroes released along with it.
However, Remo has quite a few films of top heroes to clash with including Vijay Sethupathi-Lakshmi Menon’s Rekka; this being the case, the film’s performance in theatres can only be known when it releases!
