It is strongly rumoured that Nithya Menen, the actress with substance and who opts for substantial roles instead of glam-filled roles, would play the late actress Savitri in a biopic being planned on the actress’ life.
To be made bilingual simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, the film is to be directed by Nag Ashwin who has just started the preparatory work in connection with the film. Aswhin’s attempt is not new as many in the past had successfully made biopics on famed actors and actresses.
Milan Luthria’s Bollywood venture The Dirrty Picture, which had national award-winning actress Vidya Balan playing late ‘Silk’ Smitha in the film, was the latest biopic with reports suggesting that Bollywood’s Huma Qureshi might soon play porn star-turned-actress Sunny Leone in a new biopic planned on the sultry seductress’ life.
Titled as Mahanadhi in Tamil and Telugu, the film would chronicle the life of Savithri, who ruled the roost in Tamil and Telugu films during the fifties and sixties and starred in more than 300 films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Savitri was known as ‘Nadigaiyar Thilagam’ as she had the knack of getting into the skin of her characters with an almost effortless ease.
Born in 1935, Savitri breathed her lat in 1981 when she was just 46 years old. She had a pathetic demise as it occurred when she was in an extreme state of penury.
After the likes of Nayantara, Anushka Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Vidya Balan were considered to star in the film, Nithya Menen was the ultimate choice as her body-type and height matched Savitri. The shoot of the film is to commence soon.
