National award-winning actor Vikram has predicted that television anchor-turned-actor Sivakarthikeyan is destined for greater things in the film industry. Vikram’s blessing came during his speech made at the audio-launch of his upcoming film Iru Mugan held in the city recently.
Starring Vikram, Nayantara and Nithya Menen in the lead and directed by Anand Shankar (of Arima Nambi fame), Iru Mugan has already attracted huge attention of movie-goers with its promotional posters showing Vikram in a transgender’s get-up. Vikram plays dual roles for the first time in his career in Iru Mugan produced by Shibu Thameens (producer of Vijay’s ill-fated Puli).
“Whenever I take upa film offer, I do so only if the script and my role(s) appeal to me. I also keep my fans’ expectations in my mind while choosing my roles. Anand Shankar waited for 9 months for me to launch this project. After we okayed the script, he got an offer to direct another frontline hero but he waited for me for which I felt bad. I play dual roles and with some after-thought, I decided to play the transgender myself.
“Most of the script is set in the backdrop of Malaysia and Thailand but art director created those countries in sets in our own Chennai. He has done a great work. Nayantara and Nithya Menen have been very impressive,” he said and added that Sivakarthikeyan (chief guest for the occasion) was slated to reach greater heights in Kollywood. “His Remo is miles ahead of the ‘Remo’ I played in Anniyan,” he said.
