Producer ‘Kalaipuli’ S. Thanu has said that superstar Rajinikanth told him that in his opinion, his latest film Kabali was a mix of Kamal Haasan’s Nayakan and his own film Thalapathi. Incidentally enough, both the films were directed by ace director Mani Ratnam.
Released in theatres across the globe last Friday (22nd June), Rajini’s Kabali has been doing very well in theatres in the country and elsewhere. The film had collected a whopping Rs.389 crores in its first week in theatres via its Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions which were released simultaneously. The success-meet of the film was held at Hotel Le Royal Meridien in Chennai a few days back.
Except superstar Rajinikanth, all members of the film’s crew and technicians took part in the success meet including producer Thanu and director Pa. Ranjith. Speaking at the event, Thanu said “I stood up and lauded when Ranjith concluded narrating the script to Rajini Sir who told us not to change the script and make the film as per Ranjith’s narration. I gave Ranjith a free-hand and the result is a super-duper hit!
“Rajini Sir was running high temperature when he starred in the sequence shown in the teaser wherein he walks angrily adjusting his hair. His cooperation during the making of the film was immense; speaking recently to me, Rajini Sir said that he was happy at critics saying that Kabali was a ‘crown’ of the friendship between me and him. He also said Kabali as a mix of his own Thalapathi and Kamal’s Nayakan,” Thanu concluded.
