The Chennai High Court has ordered blocking of 225 film-based websites, which are notorious for making pirated CD/VCDs of new films, a week ahead of the worldwide release of superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated Kabali.
Starring Rajinikanth, Radhika Apte, Sai Dhansika, Riythvika, Kalaiyarasan and Dinesh in the lead, Kabali has been directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by S. Thanu. The producer had moved the Chennai High Court earlier requesting it to direct the cyber crime branch of the Chennai Police to block the 225 film-based websites (as per list produced by him) which were thriving on pirated CD/DVDs.
The case was taken up for hearing yesterday by Justice Kirupakaran who ruled that the police should take immediate action to block the 225 websites listed by the petitioner.
“Cable operators in cities/towns who beam Kabali and travel agencies who might screen the film’s pirated version would also have to be brought to book,” the judge observed and asked the Centre and the State Government to respond in the issue. The next hearing in the case was postponed to 08th August.
