Raju Mahalingam, creative head of Lyka Productions, has said that it is superstar Rajinikanth’s immense star-power which has turned the release of his upcoming film Kabali as ‘carnival’ time.
Rajini’s Kabali, which has already become a global film, is all set to release in theatres worldwide next Friday (22nd July). Such hype, expectation and anxiety has never before been felt about any Indian – leave alone Tamil – film. The producer didn’t pump in millions to publicize the film but the fans have themselves taken up responsibility to put up hoardings, banners and posters as they gear up for the film’s release.
On the other side, though commerce has entered the film’s pre-release publicity in a big way as Air Asia (which runs special Kabali flights), Muthoot Finance, AirTel, etc. have joined themselves in the celebratory mood in which Rajini’s fans and movie-goers find themselves. Muthood has brought out a special series of gold and silver coins bearing Rajini’s images.
“Usually, heroes would like to release their films during carnival (festival) time; but only you (Rajini) can turn the release of your film into a carnival-type atmosphere!” Mahalingam has tweeted on his Twitter account. Lya, incidentally, is producing Rajini’s upcoming film 2.0 directed by Shankar.
