Comedian Santhanam, who has played the lead role in a few films in the past couple of years, is said to be very keen to continue his career as a solo hero and not as a comedian or a side-kick to the hero. He is said to have recently rejected an Ajith-starrer stating that he wanted to remain ‘firm’ in his decision to play solo hero.
Santhanam has Dhillukku Thuttu and Server Sundaram on his hands where he plays the lead. His tendency to accept only lead roles has made him lose out on starring in many films as a comedian. It was Simbu who helped Santhanam get a meaty role in his super-hit film Manmadhan in 2004. He never looked back and became the leading comedian in Kollywood very soon.
Thanks to Kollywood’s boycott of Vadivelu after the 2011 Assembly polls, Santhanam became the top comedian and even played roles which were parallel to the heroes in M. Rajesh’s films. Santhanam essayed lead roles in Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham and Inime Ippadithan. As the films did a decent business at the box-office, Santhanam has decided to turn a full-time hero.
Siva, who made Ajith’s Veeram and Vedalam and who is about to make his third Ajith-starrer, reportedly approached Santhanam to play the comedian in the untitled film. Santhanam, however, has turned down the offer.
“Each of us want to move to the enxt level in life; I too want to do the same and won’t take up comedian’s offers though I’m getting plenty of them!” says Santhanam.
Whether fans would be ready to accept Santhanam’s new avatar is something which only ‘Time’ will say!
