Sri Priyanka, the ‘Tamil’ actress who has been making waves for the past couple of years, has regretted the increasing trend of Tamil film-makers not opting for ‘Tamil’ heroines and instead signing up heroines from other States (read: Northern India).
Priyanka, who has starred in films such as Kangaroo, Vandha Mala and Kodai Mazhai and has made quite an impression as a young talented actress, dubs in her own voice in all her films unlike established actresses such as Trisha and Nayantara who do so only occasionally.
Hailing from Puducherry, Sri Priyanka expressed her vent at not getting enough film offers at the recent audio-launch of an upcoming film titled Saaral.
Speaking in front of actors Vijay Sethupathi and Vivek, director Vikraman and producer Suresh Kamatchi, Priyanka said “I was lauded by critics for my performance in all the three films so far; even my directors were happy with my work; still, I haven’t been getting enough offers. I wonder whether my ‘Tamil’ backdrop is the reason. I though it fit to put this to the media instead of worrying about it.
“Many express their ire at Tamil-speaking actresses not coming to star in films; when they do so, they are not getting enough offers. I enjoyed working in Saaral and I’m sure everyone would love it too,” Priyanka concluded.
Vijay Sethupathi, who spoke after Priyanka, lauded Priyanka for speaking out her mind and predicted a bright future for such a talented actress.
Vivek recalled that Vyjayanti Mala, Hemamalini and Sridevi, who ruled Bollywood for decades together, were all Tamils. “I’m sure Priyanka might also do so one day; who knows, she might even get paired up opposite Vijay Sethupathi in his next film,” said Vivek, hinting something!
