Meenakshi a.k.a. Pinky Sorcar of Karuppasamy Kuthagaithaarar, Mandhira Punnagai and Vellikaara Durai (remember the Kakka Muttai… song), has been replaced as Nandha’s heroine in an upcoming film titled as Villangam.
Produced jointly by Saravanan and Sumathi Annamanai under their banner ‘Red One Productions’, Villangam has Nandha, Gayathri, Sonia Aggarwal, Mahesheari, Baby Janani and Baby Roshni in the lead. Srinivasa Rao is the cinematographer of the film which has music by Bharadwaj.
Debutant director Saravanan has this to say about his film. “The society, which is always harsh in imposing penalties on men, looks the other way when women commit mistakes. Even when women park their vehicles in ‘no parking zones’, the police and law and order enforcing agencies don’t penalize them and let them go scot-free.
“The script deals about the bias in favour of women who can get away (with the many mistakes/errors they commit) on the basis of being the ‘fairer sex’. The film urges people to view everyone as equals,” he concluded and added that Meenakshi, who was first booked as the heroine, hasn’t been prompt in honouring her call-sheet agreement and has since been replaced by Gayathri of Touring Talkies fame.
