Count on diminutive actor-director-producer and of late television anchor Pandiarajan to narrate an interesting incident every time he is given a mike. He didn’t disappoint the audiences while speaking at the audio-launch function of an upcoming film titled Nermugam held at the Kamal Cinemas on Wednesday.
Directed by Murali Krishna of the Kunal-Monal (both of them later committed suicide for various reasons) starrer Paarvai Ondre Podhume fame, Nermugam stars Rafi in the lead opposite Meera Nandan. Pandiarajan accepted the audio cassettes and CDs of the film which were released by actress Namitha. Prajin, ‘Cool’ Suresh and others took part in the event whose highlight was Pandiarajan’s speech.
“Aan Paavam broke many box-office records when it released in December, 1985 bud it had a very poor start in theatres. When distributors saw the film before its release, the appreciated the film but asked me why did I star in the film.
On the first day, only 20 persons were spotted in a theatre in Pallavaram and I returned home only to cry on my mother’s lap. Later in the night, my assistant said that the ‘talk’ about the film was quite good and he said Abirami Theatre was running houseful shows.
“I didn’t believe him and cross-checked his version and found that those who couldn’t get tickets for Rajini-starrer Padikkathavan had watched my film. Later, Aan Paavam had an excellent run. Nermugam has plenty of newcomers who should bother least about the negative criticisms/comments that are bound to come their way; I feel the film would do well in theatres,” he said. Rafi is also the producer of the film.
