Not often a young hero plays a full-fledged politician in a film. Jai, who hasn’t had a decent hit film post the 2013 super-hit film Raja Rani, is making a comeback of sorts with Pugazh which is slated to release in theatres on 18th March.
Starring Jai and Surabhi (remember the Ivan Veramathiri actress?) in the lead, Pugazh is also billed as the first-ever ‘action-packed’ Jai-starrer. Jai, known to portray soft (and often weak) romantic characters on-screen, is said to have worked hard on his physique to look convincing in sequences where he bashes up the baddies.
Manimaran of Udhayam NH4 has directed the film which has Jai essaying an young and ambitious politician. Actress Trisha’s former boyfriend Varun Manian is one of the producers of the film which has music by the Vivek-Mervin duo.
Velraj is the cinematographer while G.B. Venkatesh is the editor of the film which has its story, screenplay and dialogues penned by Manimaran himself.
Pugzh was to have released much before Jai’s last film Valiyavan (which was also an action-packed film) in which he paired up opposite playback singer-actress Andrea Jeremiah. Failure of Valiyavan put on hold the theatrical release of Pugazh which is now to release in theatres on 18th March after securing ‘U’ certificate from the Censors.
