Strange it might sound but it is true; an upcoming film of horror genre and titled as Vellikizhamai 13-m Thethi is to feature clash between ‘14 ghosts’.
13 has always been viewed as bad in the West where we even have houses numbered as 12, 12-A and 14, conveniently omitting 13. When a Friday falls on 13th day of a month, it makes Westerners jittery as they consciously fear that something ‘bad’ might befall them. ‘Friday, the 13th’ was a popular Hollywood film which released in 2009.
We have had horror films in Tamil where mostly the heroine plays the ghost and takes revenge. However, script of Vellikizhamai 13-m Thethi has been penned in a manner where the hero wants to get married to his ladylove, a ‘good’ ghost. 13 ‘bad’ ghosts are ganging up to oppose this marriage. The film, whose shoot had been going on non-stop for the past many weeks, has been directed by Pugazhmani.
Rathan Mouli plays the hero while Shravya from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh makes her debut as heroine in Tamil films with this film. Suja Kumar, Chitra Lakshmanan, M.S. Bhasker, Livingston, Vaipuri, Rekha, Nirosha and Madhumitha form a huge star-cast in the film.
“Almost the whole world fears the ‘Friday, the 13th’ syndrome when the hero is forced to get married. A ghost takes the form of the bride; as if that is not enough, there are 13 other ghosts which are hell-bent on preventing the marriage. Watch the film in a few weeks from now to find out whether the marriage was held successfully or not,” says Pugazhmani.
