Awaiting the release in theatres of her multi-starrer Iraivi directed by Karthik Subbaraj, it appears that actress Anjali has become very selective about her projects. It is said that Anjali’s upcoming film Kanbadhu Poi deals with the much relevant concept of violence against women.
Directed by debutant Sarvesh, an erstwhile assistant director who worked under Sasi, Kanbathu Poi has Anjali and Amzath in the lead. Talking about his maiden venture, Sarvesh conceded that the women-oriented script was also Anjali’s first-ever attempt at action sequences. “The script is set in the backdrop of Coonoor and Anjali plays the role of a beautician,” he said.
On why he chose Anjali, he says, “It is a bold subject and we wanted someone who would do full justice to the role. Anjali is a natural performer and fits appropriately into the script.
When I narrated the script to her, she immediately agreed to do the film. She has given 45-50 days call-sheet for the shoot, probably the longest stint that she has allotted to any film in a long time.
“Amzath plays the lead role of a guy who studies abroad. When he returns to India, he bumps into the bold and independent Anjali. The film would surely appeal to all sections of the audiences,” concludes Sarvesh.
