Varnam is a movie based on a real-life incident that happened in India a few years ago. Debutante director S.M. Raju is a theatre personality and former associate of Santhosh Sivan. He is also a short film-maker and is foraying to movies through Varnam, which is termed a highly sensitive movie.
The story of the movie, shown through the eyes of a 10th class student named Giri, revolves around the caste and racial discriminations in society. The protagonist Giri comes to his uncle’s house to escape from the sorrow of losing his father in a riot.
There he finds the love and affection that he has been longing for. The movie progresses to a shocking climax.
Monica plays the vital role of a teacher; Giri will be played by a newcomer.
