Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film 2.0 is to release in theatres on Pongal next year, it has been informed by sources close to the film’s Unit.
Rajini had essayed dual roles in Enthiran: The Robot directed by Shankar in 2010. Five years later, the film’s sequel is now underway with Rajini essaying dual roles again.
Aishwarya Rai from Enthiran has been replaced in the sequel by Briton Amy Jackson, the flavour of the season in Kollywood. Bollywood’s Danny Denzongpa, who got ‘killed’ in the first part, is now replaced by Akshay ‘Khiladi’ Kumar as the villain.
Rajini’s amazing performance and A.R. Rahman’s soulful music resulted in Enthiran becoming a colossal success at the box-office not only in India but countries abroad as well. Titled as 2.0, the shoot of the sequel got to the floors late last month. Nirav Shah is the cinematographer, Rahman scores the music again while Lyca Mobiles would be producing the film at a huge, unprecedented (unspecified) cost.
Rajini, who has just completed four decades at the top in Kollywood, has been starring simultaneously in two films – 2.0 as well as Pa. Ranjith’s Kabali whose shoot is said to have reached its concluding stages. After wrapping up the first schedule of the shoot of 2.0, Shankar would be filming sequences involving robot(s) for which preparatory work has already commenced.
In all likelihood, 2.0 will release on 14th January, 2017 as a huge Pongal bonanza to millions of fans of superstar Rajinikanth who have a chance to rejoice this year as Kabali is releasing either in April or May this year.
